Using the Economatica system to filter through our comprehensive US financial data sets we discovered there were 52 IPOs in the third quarter of 2018.
Here are a few general observations about this group before diving into the details of the top and bottom performing new stocks for the third quarter of 2018:
· The majority of the third quarter IPOs were Manufacturers (26 or 50%)
· Finance and Insurance companies comprised the next largest group (8 or 15%)
· 17 or 33% of these new listings were foreign companies with China leading the group with 10 listings.
· 23 companies listed in September, 8 in August, and 21 in July.
· 39 companies (75%) were listed on NASDAQ while only 13 new issues (25%) were listed on the NYSE

The top 3 stocks launched in the 3rd Quarter of 2018 with the highest returns (versus the offering price) are Allakos (up 150%), Liquidia Technologies (up 149%), and Bloom Energy Corp (up 127%).
The bottom 3 stocks listed in the 3rd Quarter of 2018 with the lowest returns (versus the offering price) are Urovant Sciences (down 14%), Summit Wireless Technologies (down 14%), and Arlo Technologies (down 9%).

The best performing stock since its first trading day is Liquidia Technologies, which returned an impressive 147% in the quarter. On the flip side, the worst performing stock since its first trading day is First Western Financial which was down -11% for the quarter.
In aggregate, in the first 9 months of 2018 we had 152 IPOs compared to 101 new issues in the same period for 2017. The highest number of IPOs was in June of 2018, with 29 new stocks making their debut.
