IPOs continue to impress in 1st half of 2018

In this edition of Value Reports we examined the IPO market in the 1st half of 2018 and the data signals increasing momentum in listings.

Using the Economatica system to filter through our comprehensive US financial data sets we discovered there were 100 IPOs in the 1st half (through June 30) of 2018.

Here are a few general observations about this group before diving into performance details of these new stocks for the first six months of 2018:

· The majority of 2018 IPOs were Manufacturers (48 out of 100 or 48%)

· Finance and Insurance companies comprised the next largest group (14 out of 100 or 14%)

· 27 of these new listings were foreign companies with the largest represented groups being China (16), Luxembourg (2), and Germany (2)

· 37 companies listed in quarter 1, and 63 companies listed in quarter 2

· 68 companies were listed on NASDAQ while 32 new issues were listed on the NYSE

In the first half of 2018, we had 100 IPOs compared to 69 new issues in the same period for 2017. The highest number of IPOs was in the month of June, with 29 new stocks making their debut, compared to 17 in the same month last year.
